Nursing Mother Breast Pads
"Necessity is the mother of invention ...." years ago in 1986, necessity
spurred nursing mom Marsha Skrypuch into designing a superior pad for breastfeeding
moms.
Tired of fighting with over-packaged, heavily-seamed, expensive and unabsorbent washable pads and environmentally-unfriendly and expensive throw-away pads that felt like they were made by "gluing pieces of coarse toilet paper together," Skrypuch set about to create a fully-functional and totally affordable superior breast pad. Though it looks deceptively simple, lots of "design engineering" went into making this breast pad, which is still going strong years later. This Canadian-designed and manufactured product is now available to nursing moms all over. So what can be so special about a breast pad? Well, just ask Lisa Zanetti who is now nursing her third baby: "I wish I had known about these with my first baby -- they are wonderfully soft and comfortable to wear -- so they don't further irritate an already tender nipple like some of the other bulkier pads. They wash beautifully, they are wonderfully absorbent and they are long-lasting!"
Even though Marsha's own baby is now a teen, she is delighted that
her invention has sustained the test of time.
In addition to managing the manufacturing of the pads in Brantford, Ontario, Marsha has pursued her dream of becoming an author. Her first book -- a children's picture book called Silver Threads (Penguin), was released in 1996. Her second picture book The Best Gifts (Fitzhenry & Whiteside) combines her love of writing with her breastfeeding advocacy. In it, mother's milk is portrayed as the ultimate symbol of love. It was released in October of 1998. As of 2003 she has six books published, and more in the works.
