Gratitude

On the last day of a whirlwind week, a teacher waited in line amidst the students after my morning session at Sands Montessori. She gave me this note and told me that she expected to be bored by my presentation, but was pleasantly surprised. I cherish this kind of feedback. Thank you, Linda! What a great way to end my face to face presentations for 2019!

Last day in the Cincinnati area

This avid reader at Sands Montessori saved a spot on her cast for me.
This is me with Media Specialist Robyn Appino of Sands Montessori. I was honored by a warm welcome and many great questions.
These three students did a fine introduction to 800 of their peers for my visit to Camp Ernst MS in Burlington KY. It takes a LOT of courage to stand in front of your peers to do that. Thank you!
800 students sat on bleachers on opposite sides of the auditorium, which made it an interesting experience for presenting. I ended up twirling a lot so I could see individual students’ faces.

Group hug at Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary in Liberty Twp, Ohio

Ever have one of those perfect author visits? My time at MTCE was like that. So many excited and engaged readers and such a warm reception. As the students were congregating in the auditorium, they were so quiet and respectful you could have hear a pin drop. After the talk, students gathered around and asked so many questions and had so many awesome comments. And then I got a group hug. A wonderful afternoon.

Day 3 Cinci Scholastic Book Fair tour

Tower Heights students in Centerville OH sure know how to welcome a visiting author!
This was the first time I got to see a Scholastic Book Fair in action! Nifty cash register. I want one!
8th grade students at Tower Heights were an attentive audience.
Thank you to this student and her steady hand for the microphone as I did a reading.
The twelve students who came up at the end impressed me with their well-thought-out questions.
Tower Media Specialist Nancy Beyland.
Tower Heights avid readers!
This student had some interesting observations on the stories that are told and the ones that aren’t.

Touring Cincinnati and area — day one

My last tour of 2019 is now complete and it was lots of fun and at times a little too much excitement. My flight out of Toronto was on December 1, right in the midst of a giant ice storm. Thankfully, my flight wasn’t canceled (many were) but it was delayed. I can’t complain — it’s not like airlines control the weather — but I didn’t get into my hotel room until 3 am and then was up at 6 am, for a 7:45 am pick-up with Brenda Oler of Scholastic Book Fairs to travel to the first school, Bell Creek Intermediate. I fortified myself with a weak cup of hotel coffee and was on my way!

Avid reader Olive did a spectacular job of introducing me to her fellow students at Bell Creek Intermediate on Monday morning, Dec 2. Thank you, Olive!
Miamisburg Middle was our next stop! Isn’t this a magnificent tree? It was great to meet you, Carol Chalfant!
Here is the Miamisburg student who created this beautiful welcome poster. Thank you!!
Such a warm and welcoming group of Miamisburg students. Great questions too.
